CGS Funds 2009 Representative Tom Lantos International Studies Scholarship
for International Trade and Marketing Students at the Fashion Institute of Technology
New York, NY, October 6, 2008 -- Computer Generated Solutions, Inc. (CGS), a leader in innovative IT solutions and outsourcing services, today announced its funding of the 2009 Representative Tom Lantos International Studies Scholarship for International Trade and Marketing (ITM) students at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City.
This $10,000 scholarship is for full-time ITM students with a strong academic record and excellent written and oral skills as well as an interest and desire to participate in global issues during their career. The recipient is expected to speak at CGS’ annual customer conference, INSIGHT 08, in Las Vegas on Monday, October 27, 2008 with travel expenses paid by the company. In addition, the recipient will be eligible for a summer internship with the company with possible permanent career opportunities there.
“This scholarship will provide a talented International Trade and Marketing student with a wonderful opportunity to experience the industry firsthand,” said Christine Pomeranz, Chair of the International Trade and Marketing Department at FIT. “Together, the monetary award, the invitation to speak at CGS’ annual customer conference, and the internship will help forward the winning student’s career as little else could. We are most appreciative that CGS Funds has established the Tom Lantos International Studies Scholarship at FIT.”
Phil Friedman, President & CEO of CGS, was a close personal friend of Congressman Lantos and has decided to give an annual scholarship honoring him and to promote his humanitarian values and global views among future generations. Paul Magel, Senior Vice President of CGS, who also serves in the ITM Advisory Board, invited ITM to establish this scholarship. Congressman Lantos was very interested in the international aspects of the fashion industry and was a regular participant in CGS’ international customer conference.
“Tom’s commitment to helping others is something we can all learn from,” said Phil Friedman. “In his honor, we present this scholarship to represent his values and his integrity, and most of all, his devotion to the future of this country and abroad.” Paul Magel added, “This contribution is the least we could do for an industry where we’ve had so much involvement for the past 25 years.”
