CGS Volunteers at Local Pet Shelter in Tampa
The CGS office in Tampa, FL participated in an animal shelter event with Hillsborough County Animal Services last month. The county’s Pet Resource Center is the only ‘open admission” facility in Hillsborough County. This means the center accepts domestic animals regardless of breed, size or medical condition. The Volunteer Program, a certified Points of Light Service Enterprise Program, invites all residents to come help make a difference in pets’ lives. The event was organized by CGS HR Coordinator Susan Gutcher.
CGS volunteers also included Andy Espinosa, Michelle Brown, Anielis Rios and Shallayda McCrimmion and Susan Gutcher, who said, “It was a great day. It just breaks my heart to see all the animals there. I wish I could take them all home!”
The team was able to play with at least 15 shelter dogs and took a few of them outside for a walk – even though it was a pretty chilly day for Tampa. Team members also got play with the dogs to get some exercise. CGS team members brought pet food donations to the shelter as well.
“I was actually reluctant because I was afraid I was going to come home with five more animals!” said Gutcher. She adopted her rottweiler from that very same shelter a few years ago. Susan adds that her rottweiler was marked as “aggressive” at the shelter but turned out to be “the biggest baby.”
The CGS team plans to return to the shelter when it’s a little warmer outside and bring friends and family to help take care of the dogs.
